Two months ago we moved to Cornwall, one of the most beautiful places in the world. We’re surrounded by amazing beaches, dramatic scenery and beautiful moorland and do my kids want to explore it? Nope. I can’t think of a single time I’ve suggested going anywhere other than soft play when one of them hasn’t had a moan. There are times when it’s good to stay at home and chill, when they haven’t slept well and you’re all tired there’s no shame at all in pizza, popcorn and Netflix but no one wants to do that everyday. Ok, well my kids might but I don’t! So as I’m busy honing my skills on getting the kids out of the house and having some fun I thought I’d share my best tips with you too.
We stayed at South Penquite Farms and now I want to live in a yurt
Summer is a difficult time for holidays. It shouldn’t be, of course, but if you’ve got kids you’ll know that once the school holidays hit everything seems to cost at least 462 times more and is ridiculously crowded. As we’ve recently moved to Cornwall we’ve seen it a lot in our town, the shops suddenly all ran out of holiday essentials (toilet roll and cider) and when it rains (which of course because we’re still in the UK) the car park for soft play is quite unreal. We wanted to go away for a couple of days but we didn’t want to spend a grand or feel like a sardine so after a bit of hunting my husband found South Penquite Farm in Bodmin and now I’m wondering if I should be typing this up or trying to keep it a secret.
DIY Butterfly Number Stones
I think that after making our DIY story stones last week I might have become a little obsessed with painting on stones, it’s such a quick and easy way to make something that the kids can use and of course they look really pretty too! These DIY number stones can be made in about ten minutes and today I’m sharing my tips on how to make them as well as some ideas on how you can use them with kids of different ages and abilities. I’ve been using this set with both my two year old and my five year old so they’re good for activities for toddlers as well as school age children and they’ve both enjoyed this pretty little way to do some learning!
Driftwood Aliens
Do you hunt on the beach for treasure? My kids do, and actually I do a lot too. Beach treasure tends not to be silver and gold that pirates have hidden (sorry, I’d appreciate that too) but shells, pretty stones, sea glass and driftwood. The problem of course is then what to do with your treasure, we’ve previously made seashell decorations and DIY story stones and today we decided to make something with this driftwood craft for kids.
Sea Story Stones DIY
Every now and again I make something that puts a smile on my face just thinking about it and today these sea story stones are that thing. In the past I’ve shared a lot of sea crafts for kids but I still feel like a not overly artistic person so I do panic a little bit before I start any project. Will it work? Will it look ok? But from the moment I started this project I was just so happy with how it went and even better – the kids absolutely loved them and have been playing with them all day, I kept hearing my son tell my daughter stories of pirates, boats and jellyfish when I was getting their lunch ready. Of course now that I’ve figured out how to make these super cute stones it seems only right to share this story stones DIY with you!
