Fun Half Birthday Ideas To Put A Smile On Everyone’s Face

Updated on 19th April 2021 by Kate Williams | 3 Comments

half birthday ideas for kidsNow, I know half-birthdays aren’t always the most popular idea with everyone (‘your kids will be spoilt!’ ‘why do you have to celebrate everything!’) but recently I’ve been thinking more and more about them.

All our birthdays are in autumn and winter and frankly? It sucks. I love the idea of a celebration in the warmer months and if that makes me a terrible person then so be it!

These half birthday ideas are simple and fun ways for you to celebrate with your kids (although there’s no shame in a grown up celebrating a half birthday either!) and are a great excuse to put a smile on everyone’s face.

Taking the Boredom Challenge with #PetitsFilousPlayFree

14th January 2018 by Kate Williams | 18 Comments

‘I’m bored’ it’s the phrase we all dread, the one that makes us roll our eyes and remind our kids about all the toys they got for Christmas, the books stuffed into their bookcase and paints, paper and mountain of shiny things in the craft drawer. ‘I’m bored.’ Sometimes it seems like no matter how much stuff your kids have it’s never going to be enough to keep them entertained, I know I do a lot of raised eyebrows at this one! Petits Filous new Play Free campaign is all about letting your kids be bored and instead of trying to entertain them, letting them find their own solutions instead and it’s something I’m super excited to be involved in.

Cool Christmas Gifts for Kids

Updated on 29th October 2025 by Kate Williams | 9 Comments

Last week I shared my recommendations for things you might like to ask for for yourself this Christmas and today I’m sharing my gift guide for kids with some of the coolest things to pop under the Christmas tree this year. I always like to get my kids a mixture of the things they’ve told me they really, really want as well as the things I actually know they’ll use. I don’t do the four gift rule but I do like to try and find things that I think my kids will really get some use out of! There’s affiliate links in this post and some of these items were gifted to me so that I could check them out and review them but I’ve only included stuff I’d genuinely give my children as well as stuff that I know they already love.

50 Free Activities for Families To Try This Weekend!

Updated on 28th April 2023 by Kate Williams | 3 Comments

A couple of weeks ago I shared a list of free activities to do with your preschooler that proved to be super popular – it’s always nice to see your stuff shared a few thousand times on Facebook! One person did comment though that it’s nice to do stuff with the whole family so I thought I’d rise to the challenge and see how many free activities for families I could think of!

How to display your kids artwork

4th August 2017 by Kate Williams | 6 Comments

As you can imagine as a family we create quite a lot of art here. Not all of it ends up on the blog but there’s normally quite a lot of drawing, colouring and sticking going on too – most mornings my three year old seems to want to get the glue out within five minutes of waking up (a bit concerning as that’s normally when I work!) In our old home I washi taped the kids pictures to the wall but after moving to our new house and spending months renovating it I wanted to use something to display the kids art that was a bit….nicer.
