It being winter we have been struggling recently with getting the kids out, if it’s not raining then everywhere is wet and muddy and generally a bit bleugh. I do believe that kids need to get out in the fresh air, but with my daughter having asthma and myself having Raynaud’s Disease I’m going to be honest and say that I’m not one of those who will go out no matter what it’s like outside! After meeting with a friend and her children last week last week though we came up with this parenting hack for trips to the park that is super simple and makes it easier for your kids to play if the weather has been less than awesome.
Family Things
The Best Things We Reviewed in 2015
As a blogger I’m very lucky that get invited to events and asked to try out things that I wouldn’t do. I don’t think my son has quite got his head around what I do for a job but when I ask him things like ‘could you help me review a restaurant?’ he’s always more than happy to oblige! This year we’ve tried out everything from comics to holidays, from clothes to books and science kits but there are a few which have been really stand out brilliant for me that I thought I would like to highlight as things that as a family we have all absolutely adored!
How to make a Playdough Christmas Tree that Lights Up!
I have to admit that I am a bit rubbish when it comes to science and technology, it’s something that I enjoy learning about with my kids but frankly most of the time I think I’m only a step beyond them in the knowledge stakes, maybe sometimes only half a step?! It is something that fascinates me though and I’m a great believer in learning through play so when we were offered the chance to review the Electro Dough Kit from Tech Will Save Us I was really keen to try it out. And being us of course I had to create a little challenge in the form of working out how to create a playdough Christmas tree that lights up!
Itty Bittys Review
Never have I had to struggle to hide something work related from my kids as much as I have this last week. When I was asked if I’d like to have a look at the new Itty Bittys toy range from Hallmark I knew exactly how my kids would want me to respond, especially as the range includes some gorgeous soft super hero toys! But the problem was how on earth to keep them hidden from my kids before I photographed them? After a lot of planning I actually managed all of about 2 minutes before my youngest clocked what was in the box and as she was ill….well, what else could I do? There’s nothing like a new cuddly toy to cheer a kid up! Eventually I gave up on the concept on hiding these cute Itty Bitty toys from the kids and instead told them that I had a photography project to do and if they would be my assistants they could have any of the things we photographed. Well, guess which ones they wanted?!
How to teach your kids with the Twirlywoos
Have you watched the Twirlywoos? It’s the latest series from Anne Wood who created the Teletubbies and In The Night Garden and it seems to be just as popular as those with my kids! We were asked if we would like to review two of the new Twirlywoos books published by Harper Collins and I was really excited about it, not just because I love reading with my kids, but also because the Twirlywoos have been designed to get your kids moving and doing some sneaky learning through play. Want to find out more? And have a sneaky look in my home?! Carry on then!…
