Zoo animal crafts are always popular with kids, after all who doesn’t have their favourite zoo animal? (Mines a red panda by the way, super cute.) Zoos are always a popular day trip for families and they’re a popular topic for kids to learn about too, there are so many gorgeous books and stories about animals that you can share with your children.
Of course crafting is the most fun when it’s not stressful (my kids have totally had meltdowns when something’s been to hard) so I’ve tried to pick some easy zoo animal crafts so that there should be options available for preschool age kids as well as those a bit older.
In fact some of these crafts were made by my kids when they were in preschool so I know that they’re pretty easy!
We’ve shared some Dear Zoo activities and crafts before but this includes other zoo animal crafts which that book doesn’t and I’ll also be sharing some of my favourite zoo animal books for kids.

Zoo Books for Kids
I try as much as I can to regularly change up the books that I read at home with my kids, because after all no wants story time to become boring!
My children have always enjoyed it when I’ve been able to link what we’re making to what we’re reading about so some zoo themed books seemed like a nice idea. If your child has a favourite book based on zoo’s or their favourite zoo animal I’d love to hear about it.
All of these books are ones that I’ve read with my own children and which have stood the test of time with them, our copies are all very well used!
-
- What The Ladybird Heard on Holiday* by Julia Donaldson – I did a sponsored post for Macmillan a couple of years ago sharing a ladybird paper plate craft for this book but in all honesty it’s a book we love and still a regular bedtime story.
- Dear Zoo* by Rod Campbell – yes I did just mention it but with good reason, this book is a classic and one of those that I could previously re-tell off by heart without looking at it as we read it so often.
- The Skipping Rope Snake* by Carol Ann Duffy – more jungle than zoo based but with lots of animals and a firm favourite here.
