Free Printable Bird Template

One of my favorite things about springtime is the amount of birdsong you seem to hear and I’ve seen loads of birds gathering materials to make their nests too.

These templates are perfect for this time of the year and I think that it would be a great activity to do alongside creating one of our bird feeders kids can make so that you can help encourage some wildlife into your backyard too.

There are three different designs available in this PDF bundle so that you can choose the one that’s perfect for your activity.

The first picture shows an outline of feathers on the bird’s body, the second template shows an outline around the bird’s belly, making it perfect for a robin craft and the third template is blank, just showing the bird’s wings and beak so you can decorate it as you like.

You can print as many copies of this download as you like, so it’s perfect if you are in a preschool or classroom and need a lot of copies for an activity or to decorate a bulletin board or just if you want to try out a few ideas at home and encourage some creativity with your child.

Bird Craft Ideas

Coloring

These bird outlines are perfect for using as simple coloring pages and it’s a great activity for kids of all ages, whether they’re in kindergarten, school or even for adults who want something fun to relax with.

All you need to do is print out your favourite of the designs and grab some markers, coloring pencils or crayons.

Coloring is also a really good quiet time activity and it’s a nice one to have on standby if you have a group of kids too.

Make a Nest

Color in your bird and then using brown paper make a nest for them.

Add some glue on your paper where you would like the nest to be and then scrunch up some paper and glue it on.

Shredded paper would also be a good option to make this craft with.

Celery Printing

For a fun craft with a difference why not try painting your bird’s feathers with some celery?

Simply pour some colored paints onto a plate or tray so that they are easy to access and then cut a strip of celery – this is obviously a bit for an adult to do.

Using this in place of a paint bush you can now dip your celery into your paint and then dab it all over your bird’s body to give little half circle shapes to look like the edges of your bird’ feathers.

Collage

This template would be great for making a collage or some mixed media art. You can stick to just covering the bird itself or you could decorate the background too.

Simply cover your bird’s body in glue and then add your crafting materials to decorate it.

You could use construction paper, fabric, yarn or scrap paper from old magazines, just take a look to see what you can find in your craft supplies.

Making a collage is a great way to practice using scissors with your child as you can make small snips into your material and you don’t need to worry about following lines when you cut.

If you make a collage using this template then I’d recommend printing it onto cardstock rather than paper so that it doesn’t become saturated with the glue or get too heavy and tear.
