My kids have never been great sleepers but as they are starting to get a bit older one of the things that I’ve tried to introduce is that we have a more chilled out and relaxed start to the day on weekends. We’ve previously done sports or got ready early but now? Nope. Mummy is overdue some lie-ins. Weekday mornings can be a rush with getting the kids to school and nursery so on the weekend I try to make a bit more of an effort with breakfasts and the kids can choose whatever they fancy rather than the normal toast and cereal of weekdays. One of the ways that we can combine the kids wanting their special breakfasts and my desire to chill out is to have breakfast in bed. Obviously some foods are a bit of a no-no for this (guys! Don’t do beans on toast!) so these are some kid friendly breakfast in bed ideas that aren’t too messy or too much hassle to make.
Kid Friendly Breakfast in Bed Ideas
Chocolate brioche – actually brioche in general is pretty good and not too messy but strangely my kids prefer the chocolate kind
Croissants -serve with ham and cheese rather than jam to stop your bed getting too messy.
Toasted Teacakes – or fruit bread which I tell my kids is the same as going to Starbucks for breakfast but hey, we don’t even have to get out of bed or put proper clothes on! How much more awesome is that! Toasted things can lead to some crumbs in bed but if your kids can sit up properly in bed then that helps reduce the chances of mess, a bed from adjustablebeds.co.uk would be great as you can lean up against the back while you eat.
Cereal bars
Bacon Sandwiches – I’m going to be honest and say I’m not sure I could cope with motherhood without bacon sandwiches, they are my go to after a bad nights sleep (or lack of sleep). I was a vegetarian for eight years and my mum still is, I have no idea how she managed.
Fruit salad – super healthy and far better than cereal where milk is likely to end up getting spilled
Eggy bread – I love this and it reminds me of my childhood!
Cheese on toast
Crumpets – just have some baby wipes nearby in case your kids fingers get covered in butter
Granola with yoghurt and fruit – use my easy granola recipe but instead of serving it in a bowl serve it in a jam jar which is easier to hold
Serve the kids drinks in spill proof cups while you look after a cup of tea! Job done! What would you add or want to eat on a lazy weekend morning with your kids?

Kids and bead & Breakfast normally spells disaster in my house lol
Ohh yum. I haven’t had breakfast in bed for ages – since March at least! Mich x
Eggy bread is definitely our favourite and keeps the crumbs at bay!
Bacon or sausage sandwiches are always firm favourites here, but I like mine with a runny fried egg, which isn’t so child friendly.
Lovely we do breakfast in bed, I used to think it was wrong, because it was teaching our daughter to be lazy.
She loves breakfast in bed and it means me and hubby get some alone time in the morning.
Thank you
