Build a Bee Printable
When I was younger I was definitely really scared of bees and I know I used to run away from them whenever I saw them!
Now I’m older I understand more about the important role that they play in helping to provide pollination. Instead of being scared of bumble bees I’ve tried to teach my own children how to feed and look after them instead. (I’m still totally scared of wasps though!)
This printable craft is great for using at home or in classrooms whether you’re learning more about bees or just want a nice simple activity to do together.
It obviously requires use of scissors so may be suitable for some older preschoolers who can color in the bee printable themselves and you can cut it out for them so that they can glue the pieces together. As usual when using scissors with kids you need to be aware of their abilities.
In addition to the cut out bee craft we’ve also included a second page to this PDF file featuring a flower.
If you’d like to you can also color this in and when your bee craft is complete you can glue your bee onto it.
If you like this activity but would rather have something that doesn’t involve cutting why not check out our free printable bee template which is perfect for coloring, painting or some easy crafts as well as a beehive template that you can download too.
Craft Supplies
- White paper
- Scissors
- Glue
- Yellow and black coloring pencils, crayons or colored markers
Cut Out Bee Craft
Start by printing out the PDF file for your bee craft. You can use either normal white printer paper or white cardstock for this craft depending on what you have available and if your child is likely to play with their bee afterwards, cardstock is more durable if you’re worried about things getting torn.
Grab your yellow and black coloring pencils, markers or crayons and color in your bee. You can also add some pink or red for their cheeks if you’d like.
If you are using the flower printable too then now is a good time to color that in as well.
Follow the dotted lines on the printable and cut out all the separate parts of your bee.
Make your bee’s face by gluing the eyes onto the head as shown on the printable and then turn the face over and glue the antennae onto the back of the head. A glue stick is idea for this craft as it will hold everything in place straight away but school glue / PVA glue is also fine.
Glue the head onto the main body of the bee and then glue one wing onto the front and then glue another onto the back.
If at any point while making your cute little bee you can also refer to the picture of it in the top corner of the printable which shows how it should look once finished and you’ll also find some instructions on there to help you too.
Glue your bee’s stinger onto the end of the their body on the back side of the craft. Your bee is now finished and if you like you can glue this onto your colored in flower.
