We love this super cute free snail template and there’s so many ways that you can use it to get creative with your kids.
The Snail and The Whale is one of my kids favorite picture books, in fact it’s one of mine too and we’ve shared a lot of the Snail and The Whale activities before. This printable craft template would go perfectly with our free whale template too!
Our PDF contains three different designs, one just of the snails body, one which shows the outside of the snails shell and one which shows the spiral shape on it too.
You can print out all three designs or just use the one you want.
Snail Craft Ideas
Coloring – Coloring is always a popular activity because it’s so easy to set up and it’s something that kids enjoy too. You could go for traditional shades of brown or grey or go wild and color in your snail pink, orange or blue. Just grab your crayons, coloring pencils or markers and have fun.
Stickers – For an easy but fun snail craft try decorating with stickers. They’re great for fine motor skills and they’re normally something that you can buy quite cheaply too. You for plain spot or star shapes and use them to follow the swirl of the spiral on the snail’s shell.
Finger painting – This is often a popular choice for painting with young children, just use finger painting to make the spiral shape around the snail’s shell.
Paper paper plate craft – If you want to make a snail paper plate then the first template on our PDF is perfect. Decorate your paper plate however you like and then all you need to do is cut out the snail’s body using scissors and glue it onto your paper plate with a glue stick.
Pom pom painting – Similar to finger painting try dabbing a craft pom pom into paint and then using it to decorate the snail’s shell on your free template. If your child isn’t keen on getting paint on their hands then you can use a clothes peg to hold the pom pom.
Paper squares – I love teaching my kids about artists so why not take inspiration from Henry Matisse’s work The Snail and cut squares and rectangles out of colored craft paper or construction paper and then glue it on to the snails shell.
