We’ve got ideas to get you all through the year but these ones are my favourites for the warmer months of the year when you’re more likely to be thinking about butterflies.

Butterfly Craft Ideas
Coloring – coloring is a great activity and one that kids and parents both enjoy, plus sometimes you just need a quick mess-free activity that doesn’t take ages to plan. this template makes a great butterfly coloring page so all you need to do is grab your markers, crayons or coloring pencils and you’re ready to get started. You can design your own butterfly using your favorite bright colors and even glue googly eyes on too if you wish.
Nature Craft – I used this template with my daughter to make this simple butterfly nature craft and we’ve also also changed it for the different seasons with this fall leaf craft. This craft is a great excuse to get outside and is one we really enjoyed making, the instructions are really easy to follow and it’s a nice activity for younger kids too.
Mosaics – This is a great way to use up old scrap paper or craft materials. Simply cut up colored paper and glue it on to fill in the butterflies wings. Try hunting through your craft box or cupboards to see what else you could use for your mosaic, why not try old magazines, scraps of fabric or even cut up toilet paper rolls.
Stickers – Stickers are great for fine motor skills and they’re normally something that appeal to kids too. You could choose a pack of colored dots, gems or stars or if you want to go with something a bit less traditional choose flowers or your kid’s favorite character, whatever you think they’ll enjoy.
Puppet – For a really simple puppet print your butterfly craft template onto cardstock, cut out the butterfly’s body and then use tape or a hot glue gun to stick a popsicle stick onto the back.
Pom pom painting – this is one of our favourite easy activities and a great way to make beautiful butterfly crafts. Simply pour some paint onto a reusable plate and dip a pom pom in it before using it to dab onto your butterfly printables to paint them.
While it’s creating whole butterflies rather than decorating a printable I also had to mention this butterfly printing activity from The Craft Train because it’s absolutely gorgeous and a really simple idea too – my kind of thing!

As well as this butterfly template we also have a pack of nine butterfly activity sheets for kids. Make sure you check them out too!
