Octopus Template
We love creating simple crafts for kids and this octopus template is so cute I can’t wait to try it out!
There are three different designs available in the PDF file, the first is a basic outline, the second template has the octopus’s face and the third includes details on their tentacles.
Under The Sea Themed Free Templates
I’ve shared lots of free printable templates for kids crafts on this site as they’re a great way for helping you to encourage creativity with your kids without having to spend a fortune.
We have craft templates for all sorts of themes and seasons but here I’m sharing a few ocean themed ones which are perfect for trying out at home or for in your classroom and with each printable you’ll also find ideas on how you can use them.
Octopus Craft Ideas
Coloring
Coloring is a super easy craft to set up and it’s one that’s great for keeping kids occupied too, perfect for quiet time!
All you need to do is print out your octopus template and choose your favourite markers pens, coloring pencils or crayons to use.
Bubble Wrap
This is a really fun material to paint with and if you’ve been sent some as part of a parcel’s packaging then it’s a great way to get a second use out of it too.
You can either use the bubble warp to paint the background of your picture or you can do as we did in our penguin craft and paint a separate piece of colored or construction paper with your bubble wrap and then cut your image out using scissors and glue it on.
I find that if I’m doing bubble wrap painting with my kids then the best way to keep it from getting too messy is to use tape to make a little envelope shape out of the bubble wrap that they can put their hands in to paint with.
Pom Pom Painting
This is a really simple way to use something to give a painting some texture. Pour a bit of paint onto a plate or tray so that it’s easy for your child to access and then dab a pom pom into the paint before dabbing it onto your octopus to colour in the outline.
You can choose one colour or go for a few to create different shades, it’s a great excuse to look at color mixing too. If you use the blank octopus outline for this then you could also add some googly eyes to your artwork when it’s finished or draw some on with a black marker.
If your child is likely to use a lot of paint then you might find it helpful to print your template onto cardstock rather than paper so that it doesn’t become over saturated.
Stickers
These are a great way to decorate with minimal effort and using stickers is a really good way to support your child’s fine motor skills too.
You could either use basic stickers like colored dots to color in your octopus – this would be great for the octopuses tentacles or you could use ocean themed stickers to create an ocean scene in the background adding fish, sharks or dolphins.
More Ocean Crafts for Kids
This shark craft was made using our free template and some cotton buds.
This resist art fish craft is another that uses one of our free PDF templates and is a really fun painting technique to try if you haven’t used it before.
Finally we love paper plate crafts, they’re nice a cheap too so they’re good for preschool and kindergartens as well as at home. Here I’ve shared a narwhal and jellyfish paper plate craft to go alongside a book we loved.
