16 Easy and Achievable Toddler Crafts

4th May 2020 by Kate Williams | Leave a Comment

toddler craftsAs a blogger I’ve spent more time on Pinterest than I’d like to admit to and a lot of that time has been looking at toddler crafts. When your child is a toddler it’s an amazing time as they learn more about the world but it can also be a really busy one as parent as you look for ways to keep them occupied and entertained. My problem with finding crafts for toddlers though is that… well, they’re not always that achievable. I’m a grown up, I do this for a job and there’s still stuff I see that I think I’d struggle to make. Sorry but it’s true!

With that in mind all the crafts for toddlers that I’m sharing in this post are ones that I’ve done with my own kids, although you’ll also find some free printables that while I didn’t do with my own kids at that age (because I didn’t have the printables then) are totally toddler friendly and perfect for an easy bit of colouring, painting or stamping. Hopefully they’ll help you and your toddlers find some easy activities that you can do together at home.

Crafting With Toddlers

Toddlers are generally considered to be aged 12 to 36 months old. As you will know this time in your child’s life is one of great development so it may be that they can’t do, or aren’t interested in, all of these crafts. If this is the case don’t worry, just bookmark or pin this post for later and you can always try out some different ideas with them in a month or two, it’s always surprising how quickly things can change! As a rather obvious but covering myself statement, you will need to supervise your toddler throughout these crafts, especially if you are using small items which can be a choking hazard.

Free Templates for Toddler Crafts

We share a lot of free templates for kids crafts and these are some of the most popular. They’d be great for a colouring or painting and each template also has some ideas with it for simple crafts that you could do with your child.

These DIY stamps are a great alternative to painting with paintbrushes.

Paint with tin foil, this one is Valentines themed but it’s super easy to change it to any other theme, you could use this one one of the templates we’ve shared.

This butterfly craft is super pretty!

Use tissue paper to make these sweet seahorses for an under the sea theme.

This rainbow fish craft also uses tissue paper but it’s in a totally different way and creates a totally different effect. Try it with reading The Rainbow Fish book as well!

Learn about minibeasts while you make these dragonfly suncatchers that look great up in a window.

Make a handprint sun – this craft was done with both my children and as you’ll see even very young toddlers can help out and get creative.

Get out the cotton buds for this ladybird craft that’s great for fine motor skills.

Raid the kitchen cupboards to make these potato masher rainbows.

Invest in a pack of paper plates and make these paper plate crabs or sea turtles.

Paper Bag Haircuts: A Cute Scissor Skills Activity

15th April 2020 by Kate Williams | 1 Comment

paper bag haircut craft for scissor skills

I must admit that I’m a bit obsessed with paper bag crafts for kids at the moment (you can find some more of ours at the bottom of this page). Generally I try to use stuff that we have in the recycling bin where possible but if say, I were to buy a paper bag full of cookies in the supermarket then hey! I’d have a craft material for free! The fact that I have more than one child means that umm… I need to by cookies quite often at the moment but hey I’m hardly finding that to be a hardship and I can’t say the kids have complained either. This cute scissor skills activity is the perfect way for kids to practice using their scissors without having to use a worksheet and it’s a great way to encourage creativity too.
