I know that after school or preschool my kids can still be pretty wired, sometimes we’ll head out to the park but sometimes (especially when it’s cold!) it’s good just to be at home. These calming activities for after school are all tried and tested by mums with their kids, meaning that they are great for helping kids to decompress and most of them would work as great calming activities for toddlers too, perfect if like me you have more than one kid that needs calming down!

This snowflake sensory bag was so easy to make that now I want to make them with all sorts of themes! You can put this simple activity together in around two minutes and even better it’s easily adaptable for different ages, so although it looks like mess free sensory play for babies, my son who is nearly six also enjoyed playing with it and actually you can use it for simple maths activities too!

Last week when we were making our driftwood Christmas cards we all got a bit excited about making cards ourselves and so we created these drinking straw Christmas cards too. They’re super simple but there’s also a little bit of learning and fine motor skills involved too which makes it into a great Christmas activity for kids.

After making our snowy owl crafts last week we decided to continue with our arctic animal crafts and make try making a walrus craft for kids.
I was a bit worried if my children would know what a walrus is but then I remembered that there’s one on Paw Patrol so that was that problem quickly sorted!
This craft is really easy to make so it’s a good walrus craft for preschool too and I’ve included both what what my just turned three year old daughter made as well as my son who is nearly six and me who is nearly…well I’m significantly older than them!
This is also a really good craft if you want to teach your kids about how to make colours.
