These DIY Lego crayons are super easy to make, to the extent that my helper with these was my three year old daughter. They’re perfect for anyone who has ended up with a handbag full of broken crayons, if your kids are a bit bored of crayons but you can’t quite get yourself to chuck them away or they’d be perfect to make as a cute party favour for a Lego party. We found we needed the ‘right crayons’ but once we had that sorted they were super simple to make.

I’m delighted to be sharing some ideas today about learning outside to help promote Outdoor Classroom Day. With two young kids myself I know how much more fun they have when they learn outside and when kids are having fun they’re far more interested in what they are actually learning!Children today have less time than ever to play outdoors and research by the Dirt is Good campaign found that 1 in 10 children said they never play outside on an average day. Outdoor Classroom Day takes place on May 18th and you can sign up here to join in, just take at least one lesson outside and show how important playtime is for children. Fidget spinners seem to be going absolutely crazy at the moment. We live in a rural area so normally when I hear about trends I think they won’t hit us quite so badly but this week there’s been fidget spinners starting to appear in my son’s classroom and I’ve heard several mums in the playground talking about them too! Whether you like a bit of an engineering challenge, don’t fancy buying a fidget spinner yourself or just fancy a craft that your kids will really get into (you know you’ll be the cool parent with this one!) DIY fidget spinner toys are a great idea. I’ve hunted out some great tutorials, both from blogs and youtube (because sometimes I know it helps to see what you’re doing!) so I’m sure they’ll be a fidget toy tutorial in this list that you’ll love. Some of these DIY fidget spinner tutorials are obviously way too hard for young kids (umm, check out the iphone one) but they do look amazing while others like the one by Red Ted Art are far more achievable.

A quick little post from me today as I was just looking through some old photos and found this sweet under the sea paper plate craft that my daughter made – how could I forget to share this?!
We love all ocean crafts (you can see all our sea crafts for kids here) and this was inspired by a sea collage we’d seen out on a walk that week – while it’s super simple it’s also super cute too.
As is often the case here it’s made with things that we already had around the house, no news there as I very rarely get any advance warning from the kids!
