What You'll Find on This Page
Bat Template
I don’t think that it’s really spooky season unless there’s a few bats flying around and this simple bat outline makes it really easy for you to get creative whether that’s at home decorating your porch for trick or treaters or in a classroom or preschool making something fun as a group.
I’ve always done quite a lot of bat crafts and activities with my kids, partially because my kids love Halloween but also because my son was huge fan of Batman when he was younger.
If I couldn’t find anything online to do then I’d have to come up with something quickly!
Bat Craft Ideas
Coloring
I’ve always been a big fan of doing coloring with my kids as it’s such a quick activity but it’s always been one that they actually enjoy too, it’s perfect for quiet time and it’s something that I’m quite happy to join in with too!
This bat outline is obviously a basic one but that also means that you’re free to add some details of your own if you use this as a coloring page.
Why not grab your markers, crayons or coloring pencils and add a mouth and fangs to make these into vampire bats? You could glue on some googly eyes too if you have them!
You could try printing your bat onto blue paper, paint it black and then add some stars to the background. Or why not try coloring in a few of these then cutting them out and using them for Halloween decorations, they’d look great flying across a wall or on a bulletin board.
Cotton Buds
Whether you call them cotton buds, cotton swabs or q-tips these nifty little items are great for painting with.
All you need to do is pour a bit of paint into a plate or tray, dab your cotton bud into the paint and then dab it onto your bat’s body to color it in with dots.
Cotton bud too small for your child? Try using pom poms or for a paint free version go for bingo dabbers.
Mosaic
Mosaic crafts are a great way to practice both scissor skills and fine motor skills plus they can be a great way to use up any old construction paper or scrap paper too.
Check out our mosaic bat craft to see how we made this using this template.
Suncatcher
Make a suncatcher using dark cellophane or tissue paper. I made pumpkin suncatchers with my kids that they really enjoyed but you could easily do a bat shaped one cutting about a 2cm edge around this template to give you a frame for your child to fill in.
As well as the original post about this I’ve also linked the video of making our suncatchers to this page to give you an idea how this works.
Resist Art
Resist art (or silhouette art) has to be one of my favorite techniques and it’s absolutely perfect for making some Halloween art.
Instead of using these as bat stencils you’ll be using scissors to cut out the shape and then attaching that with washi or masking tape to some black construction paper or cardstock.
You can check out our step by step instructions for making this bat silhouette craft, I quite like the idea of changing the colors in it to yellow too to make it look a bit like the bat signal!
More Halloween Templates For Kids Crafts
As a parent I know how handy it can be to have things to hand that you can easily print off for your children so here on Crafts on Sea you’ll find lots of free templates with ideas for every season.
With each printable template you’ll also find ideas on how to use them and I try to stick to using craft supplies that you might already have rather than a list of materials that’s hard to find or expensive to purchase. I hope they help you too!
I love our haunted house template which has two different designs and is perfect for using for crafts or using as a coloring sheet.
Our newest addition for our spooky printables is this Frankenstein template. There are four different designs for this one so you could design your own monster!
Finally for some cute but spooky decorations why not grab our free build a spider craft where you can color and cut out your spider before pasting it all together with your glue stick.
