My daughter has been making a lot of sea crafts for kids at her nursey the last few weeks and she absolutely loves it! Seahorses seem to be her favourite (aren’t they everyones favourite?!) So I thought I’d continue the fun at home with this super cute seahorse craft for preschoolers, they make great crafts for toddlers as they’re so easy but really good for fine motor skills.
Since we made this craft we’ve also published a free seahorse template to make it even easier for you to make this craft together at home.

Tissue paper
Glue
Why is this seahorse craft for preschoolers so good?!
Tearing paper is great for preschoolers, firstly because eek you’re not normally allowed to tear paper and secondly because it’s good for fine motor skills. It’s a great craft to talk about what you’re doing too – I asked my daughter each time what colour paper she wanted to use next so it’s great for reinforcing learning with that.
Tissue paper also makes a great sound when you scrunch it up and its a fun texture to play with too, my daughter loved telling me what she was doing in each stage – ‘roll it, roll it!’ She has a mild speech delay so anything that encourages talking is good with us!
The making of this seahorse craft is pretty simple – just print off the template above, then cut it out and glue on the scrunched tissue paper. I think this would look great in a preschool as part of a larger sea collage!
If you’ve got some tissue paper left over then why not try our tissue paper seahorse craft too which uses a different technique and our seahorse template for a really cool activity.
