As the seasons change I always find myself being trying to make sure that we spend as much time outside as we can. These easy bird feeders are super simple for kids to make and the perfect way to encourage kids to spend a little more time outdoors plus they’re a great way to remind kids (and ourselves!) to look after nature in the area around us.
Just so you’re aware, this is an old post that I thought I’d share again as I’ve made a little video to go with it (and because it’s a nice activity to do with your kids this weekend!) I’ve also got lots more ideas for DIY birdfeeders and autumnal crafts so do check out the links at the end of this page. Want to make sure you don’t forget any of these ideas? Make sure you bookmark or pin them!

Making your easy bird feeder:
What was so nice about making this bird feeder is that it’s so simple even my preschooler could make it with almost no help. There was nothing that really required adult help or supervision so your kids can really feel like they did the whole thing themselves and did their bit to help feed the birds in your garden!
If you’d like to see how we made it you can watch the video below or follow the written instructions underneath.
We started by making a hole in the corner of the bread with our fingers and then I threaded through a bit of garden string and tied that in a knot to make a loop, the kids helped out pulling the knot tighter as I wanted to keep them as involved as possible.
They then spread peanut butter onto their bread using a butter knife and then pressed bird feed on top of the peanut butter. Once the first side was done they turned the bread over and did the same on the other side.
We had a robin that kept flying up to us while we were making these and once we’d hung them up on a tree the kids were really happy to see him go and eat some!
