Free Printable Christmas Scavenger Hunt
We love doing scavenger hunts, they’re a great activity to keep your kids entertained and if you need an excuse to get your children outdoors in this colder weather then they work brilliantly as some motivation to get outside.
Our festive scavenger hunt is perfect for younger kids and being able to color in each item as you find it means that this should hopefully take them a little while to complete too – no one wants to set up an activity for it to be over in thirty seconds!
Of course older kids (and you) can do this scavenger hunt too and it’s the perfect excuse to get out together as a family for a mini adventure walking round your hometown while you look for everything on the checklist.
You could also use this as a fun Christmas game at your holiday party, choosing teams to work together to find as many of the items as possible.
Christmas Scavenger Hunt Supplies
To take part in this scavenger hunt you will need:
- Christmas Scavenger Hunt Printable
- Markers or coloring pencils
- Optional – clipboard
Where does a Christmas scavenger hunt take place?
You can hold your scavenger hunt wherever you like depending on what works for you.
This would be a fun excuse to go for a walk around your neighbourhood but you could even use it around your own home if you have lots of decorations or maybe at a Christmas market.
If you want to do your scavenger hunt in a classroom or preschool you could let the children look for these items in the class, has anyone drawn a picture of a reindeer or maybe you have a wreath hanging up.
You could even use this as an opportunity to take a look through a Christmas book together and color in each item as they appear in the story or are seen in the pictures.
How do you run a scavenger hunt?
You can do a scavenger hunt either in groups or as individuals, personally my kids like to have a sheet each to colour in.
Once you’ve decided what area (home, school, outdoors) you’ll be doing your scavenger hunt in grab some coloring pencils or markers and color in each item as you find it.
You’ll notice that there are also some additional questions with more items your child can look for too.
You can do this activity as a group or just with one child, whatever suits your circumstances.
If you are doing this with more than one child then you can do this as a race to see who finds all the items first or try setting a time limit to see how many can be found in that period.
Personally with my kids and with color in scavenger hunts like this one my kids have always just been happy to color as they go with no competition. As usual, go with what works for you and your child!
Do I have to find all the items on the list?
No. Unless you are doing this as a planned activity with a group (in which case you could hide a bauble, gingerbread man etc) then you don’t really know exactly what items you’ll find.
If you are doing this as a competition then the winner could be the person who finds the most items.
