Chinese New Year Craft

I’m totally in love with this fun craft project for Chinese New Year with it’s 3D scene celebrating the lunar new year and cute bunny design.

There are four different styles available for this craft. All you need to do is pick the one that you prefer and when you print the PDF make sure that you choose to only print the pages that you need. You will need one each of the front, middle and back pages.

The four options for the front page are:

  • Chinese New Year
  • Happy New Year
  • Year of the Rabbit (this craft was originally shared in 2023)
  • Blank design with no message

When Is The Chinese New Year in 2024?

In 2024 the Chinese New Year will take place on Saturday 10th February and will be the year of the dragon.

What Are The Chinese Zodiac Animals?

There are 12 animals in the Chinese zodiac and each animal has it’s own characteristics.

The animals are, in order, rat, ox, tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, goat, monkey, rooster, dog, and pig.

We also have a version of this printable with a dragon on the front if you would prefer a dragon craft for New Year.

Craft Supplies

  • Chinese New Year craft template printed onto white cardstock
  • Coloring pencils, markers or crayons
  • Scissors
  • Double sided tape

How To Make Your Chinese New Year Craft

Start by printing the three pages you want out onto white cardstock.

While you can use white printer paper for this craft if that’s what you have in your home or classroom, cardstock will help make it a bit more sturdy.

Color in each of the three pages. It’s worth noting at this point that not all of the third page will be visible once the craft is completed so if you don’t want to / don’t have time to color right to the bottom on this page then don’t worry.

Cut each of the three pages out making sure that you keep the tabs intact and then fold the tabs.

Stick the tabs together following the guidance – A1 to A2 etc. For this craft I would recommend using double sided tape rather than glue as it will immediately secure the parts in place. This is however also a bit of a downside to it as once you have stuck the tabs together they can’t be adjusted (unlike with a glue stick or school glue) so make sure that you have your placement correct.

Your Chinese New Year craft is now complete and ready to display!
