Chinese Dragon Craft (Cotton Bud Painting)

We love sharing Chinese New Year crafts and this easy Chinese dragon craft is super quick for you to set up to make using our free template. All you need to grab are a few materials and you’re ready to get started.

My daughter doesn’t need much of an excuse to do some crafting and with Chinese New Year we thought it would be fun to try out an easy Chinese dragon craft using our Chinese dragon printable.

I love using templates for kids crafts because they make it so much easier to get your craft ready. I’m actually not that amazing at drawing (Shhh! Don’t tell anyone!) so templates make it really easy and quick for me to set an activity up.

This craft is a great one for keeping kids focussed. Both my daughter and I gave it a go and we really had to concentrate while we were making it.

What are Cotton Buds?

We used cotton buds to paint our Chinese Dragon. In the US these are called Q-Tips. At least I believe so anyway, if they’re called something different where you live let me know in the comments below!

Chinese Dragon Template

You can of course draw a Chinese dragon yourself but I’m going to be honest and say I find them super tricky to draw myself!

Chinese Dragon Craft for Kids

Equipment

• Reusable plate

Materials

• 1 Chinese Dragon Template
• Paint
• Cotton Bud

Instructions

• Print out your Chinese dragon template and pour some coloured paint onto your plate.
  
• Dip your cotton bud in the paint and then use it to make dots all over your Chinese dragon.
  
• Keep colouring your dragon in with different coloured paints until your craft is finished.
  

Notes

Try doing your dots closer together or further apart to get more or less paint coverage on each area.

Use different cotton buds for each colour paint or the paints will all mix together - no one wants a sludge coloured dragon!
