Bonfire Night Crafts and Activities: 23 Fun Ideas For Kids

Updated on 13th September 2023 by Kate Williams | 7 Comments

There are so many fun Bonfire Night crafts and activities for kids out there that I had to share some with Bonfire Night only a couple of weeks away.

It’s a great night for kids and one my own children always love but they can get a little over excited so making some simple crafts together can be a great opportunity for them to learn more about the meaning behind the celebrations as well as keeping the calm a little!

I’ve tried to share a mixture of Bonfire Night activities for all different ages from toddlers and preschoolers to bigger kids in school. Hopefully you’ll find some inspiration for something your child will love too.a collage of bonfire night activities and crafts for kids suitable for guy fawkes night

Bonfire Night Crafts

Bonfire night is one of my kids favourite nights of the year, I think it’s the excitement of getting dressed up all warm to go out in the dark and seeing something a little bit scary? No matter what your age they’re always something that goes pop or bang that will make you jump!

While you can’t recreate a firework display in your home, you certainly can have a lot of fun with these easy craft ideas. There’s art ideas for making pictures of firework displays, ideas on how to make some firework crafts (I love the fireworks ring!) and inspiration for making lots of simple bonfire crafts.

Of course you’ll also find some ideas for bonfire night food to make and eat with your child with chocolate fireworks bark and some cool looking fruit rockets that are bang on theme!

Learning About Bonfire Night

I’m aware that we get quite a lot of readers from outside the UK and even for those of us who live here it’s always nice to have a little reminder of what and why we celebrate!

Bonfire Night takes place on 5th November and is the anniversary of the attempt to blow up the Houses of Parliament.

If you’d like to find out more there’s a good article on the BBC Newsround site telling the story behind Bonfire Night.

What Do You Do On Bonfire Night?

Bonfire night is a big celebration where people go out after dark to watch firework displays, these can be at home but they’re more often put on professionally.

People celebrate with bonfires, sparklers and fireworks and traditional food for Bonfire Night can include toffee apples and anything warming like jacket potatoes and hot dogs.

Traditionally a ‘Guy’ is also put on the bonfire – this is a dummy that represents Guy (Guido) Fawkes who was part of the plot, this is why you might hear the fifth of November called Guy Fawkes night (it’s called fireworks night by some people too!)
