Paper Plate Emoji Craft for Kids

Updated on 28th April 2022 by Kate Williams | 4 Comments

I know that this paper plate emoji craft for kids was a big hit with my two as they’ve taken their creations into school and nursery today to show them off!

Although perhaps emoji crafts aren’t the first kids craft you’d think of (at three and six years old my two don’t exactly text yet) there’s something about emoji’s that really appeal to kids.

Perhaps it’s the big kid friendly faces, perhaps it’s that they’re a grown up thing that looks like a kids thing. I don’t know but either way this fun paper plate craft was a huge hit here so hopefully it will be for you too.

Materials for your paper plate emojis

  • Paper plates
  • Yellow paint
  • Paint brushes
  • Glue
  • Coloured card in red, blue, black and white

Making your emoji crafts

First paint your paper plates using yellow paint – I find that these kind of brushes work best as they make it super quick.

Once they are dry you can choose which emojis you want to make – I know this isn’t the most educational craft around but my kids genuinely loved scrolling through my phone deciding which ones to make.

I don’t think it’s a bad thing for technology to encourage kids to make something and I know my kids love making stuff that they’re interested in like the Captain America paper plate shield and hulk masks that they made before.

We cut out the shapes together and stuck them onto our plates, my daughter at three obviously needing more help with the cutting. My son found it easier to cut out the shapes if he drew them onto the card first – most things will show well enough on the black card to cut and don’t show up too badly once your paper plate is finished.

As well as my helping them to make these emoji paper plate crafts they also ran with this idea and started making their own. Some of them had drawn on faces using felt tips (we normally use these pens for drawing on paint as they tend to give brighter colours) and cut out eye holes in the paper plates and stuck on craft sticks to make them into emoji paper plate masks – great for a bit of fun role play!

Of course I made a couple of these emoji crafts too – frankly they looked like good fun and I wanted to join in – they’re also quite good for using to make faces at the kids during mealtimes!
