DIY Teacup Planter

Updated on 7th December 2019 by Kate Williams | 12 Comments

Do you spend more time doing housework than you’d like to? Yep, me too. Not a fan. But next to the sink in my kitchen is a little windowsill that gets a bit of light, and I thought to myself what would be a simple way to make the most of what’s around me and turn this forgotten little space into a source of brightness. I was asked by Twinings to share how I experience the most from my day and I thought what could be better than popping a little DIY teacup planter on there to spread a bit of happiness! I love DIY teacup crafts as they’re a great way to use up a bit of vintage crockery and they remind me to put the kettle on when I need a bit of me time!

How to make your DIY Teacup Planter

First I cleaned my teacup, yes I know you’re about to fill it with compost but I wanted to make sure there were no old stains on the outside! Fill the bottom of your teacup with small stones, as you won’t be drilling any drainage holes into your cup and this will stop it becoming waterlogged.

Ta-da! Your teacup planter is now complete, this would make a great DIY gift for someone and it’s pretty thrifty too, to make two teacup planters cost me less than five pounds. Personally I’m keeping mine as I think they look fab and they help to cheer me up when I’m surrounded by saucepans!

What are the everyday small things you take joy from?

Twinings have just launched a campaign that focusses on helping people take joy in the small things they do or see each and every day. They are running a great competition until the end of March where you can win some of their gorgeous products – all you need to do is check out their Facebook page and share a photo showing how you #DrinkItAllI, such as some blooming Spring flowers or trying something for the first time. This week’s theme is “the little things you do to bring brightness into each and every day”. I’ll be sharing some of my ways on Twitter and Instagram (@TwiningsTeaUK) and of course checking out the Twinings Tea Facebook page to get some more inspiration myself to make the most of each day!

How gorgeous! No space on my kitchen windowsill for these at the moment, as I’ve lettuce and herbs growing there, but … if I just move that Peace Lily out of the way then… hmmm… I think I’ll be rearranging my plants and putting some of these lovelies on the windowsill!

That’s a great idea! I love hens & chicks cause they are fairly slow growing and easy to take care of.

This is so sweet. It reminds me of my grandma. She had a lovely tea cup collection. She would have loved this idea.
