Easy February Crafts for Toddlers and Preschoolers

In this post I’ll be looking at easy crafts for Valentines Day, heart crafts, winter animal crafts and crafts for Chinese New Year.

As a mom of two myself I’ve always found it much easier to plan activities with my kids when there’s a theme involved.

Toddlers and preschoolers are often naturally excited about the world around them and events taking place so it’s a great excuse to plan your activities around this, for example with the shops full of hearts and flowers Valentines Day crafts are really popular.

These crafts are designed to appeal to children aged one, two, three and four years old although as you’re aware their abilities and interests across this age group vary widely so take a look though these ideas to find the ones that are perfect for your child.

As always, crafts with toddlers and preschoolers require supervision throughout the activity especially when you include scissors or small parts.

More Themes for February

If you’re planning ahead or want even more inspiration some additional February themes that work well with toddlers and preschoolers are:

  • Colors
  • Groundhog Day

Using a hot glue gun means that the preparation for this craft is definitely one for the grown ups to do but this heart craft that I did with my daughter was great as a quiet time activity and she enjoyed exploring the different textures as well as painting them.

Winter Animal Crafts

Winter and arctic animals are a really popular February theme for kids with polar bears, penguins, snowy owls and arctic foxes all being popular choices.

Paper Plate Narwhal

Paper plate crafts are always a great choice for toddler and preschooler activities as not only are they cheap and convenient to buy, the thicker material means that they can cope with being covered in large amounts of paint.

This craft does include a small amount of cutting which your child may need assistance with but they can definitely help with painting the paper plates and drawing the narwhal’s face.

Paper Plate Polar Bears

This cute paper plate craft was made by my kids when my daughter was three years old and my son was six years old.

Not only are cotton balls a household staple in many homes, meaning that they’re an easy craft supply to get hold of, but they’re a really fun and sensory material for kids to use too.
