I love handmade Father’s Day cards and gifts and I think anything with a handprint on it has to automatically be one of the best ideas, who can resist seeing how small their kids were?
This free template is perfect if you want something quick and easy to make. All you need to do if print it out, do a handprint and you’re set for the big day. Great if you’re in a rush!

What Age Are These Fathers Day Handprint Cards Suitable For?
Because these cards are make from a sheet of paper or cardstock folded in half they are most suitable for younger kids such as toddlers and preschoolers because of the area available for their handprints.
I would recommend using these cards for kids aged between one and three, but you may find that some slightly older children are able to use them too, it will of course just depend on their size of their hands.
For comparison, the first image below is done with a handprint from a one year old while the second child’s handprint was made by a three year old.

Rocket Handprint Card
These DIY Fathers Day cards are really easy to make and will make a brilliant keepsake. After it’s been displayed you could even pop it into a photo frame for posterity.
Start by printing out the card you could like to use onto white cardstock. You could use white printer paper if that’s all you have available but using card stock will ensure that your card is able to stand up. Fold your card in half.
If you have chosen one of the black and white cards then now is the time to color it in.
There are now two ways to paint your child’s hand for the handprint. The first is to pour some colored paint into a plate or tray and then have your child dip their hand into the paint ensuring that all of their hand and fingers have some paint on them before placing their handprint onto the card.
The second option is to grab a paintbrush and then either they or you can paint their palm and fingers.
Personally for crafts like this I prefer the second option as you can easily ensure that you get paint on all the right areas and if you want to use more than one color for your rocket’s flames then you can ensure that you get any red, orange or yellow paint in the right places.
It all stops you from getting too much paint onto your hands too which can be an issue too! The only side effect of using a paintbrush rather than the normal plate and paint option is that using a paintbrush on my kids hands normally makes them start giggling as it can be a bit ticklish, but arguably this isn’t actually a bad thing!
As an aside if your child really hates getting their hand messy, and I know some kids hate the feel of paint, you could always draw around their handprint onto colored construction paper and then cut this out with scissors and glue it on.
Once your child’s hand is painted they can place their hand down onto the card to create the rocket’s flames. They may want to practice this first with an unpainted hand to see where their fingers need to go.
Which ever way you choose to create these easy Father’s Day cards I would highly recommend keeping some wipes or a damp cloth nearby to wipe your child’s hands once they have finished.
As much as I always tell my own kids to go straight to a sink to wash their hands I am aware that stuff happens and this helps reduce the chance of you having to clear up any mess.
Once the paint is dry don’t forget to write a message on the inside.
