So earlier I shared a free mittens template with you and how I’m sharing some winter mittens painting ideas for kids with you to help give you a bit of inspiration to use it! All these painting ideas are ones that I did with my daughter, I joined in with the painting too just because we enjoyed it! They’re all really simple to do and having the free template makes sure that they’re really quick to set up as well.
What You'll Find on This Page
Winter Mittens Painting Ideas for Kids
All of the painting ideas that I’m sharing today use our free mittens template. It’s free to use and you can print as many copies as you like, we printed lots so we could try out lots of different ideas!
For all of these ideas we’ve just used normal printer paper although card can be better if you are likely to use a lot of paint or if you want to cut your mittens out afterwards.
We had a hunt around our craft box to see what wintery paint colours we could find so we’ve gone for blue, white and purple. We also created different shades of blue paint by mixing the blue and white paint together. You could also use blue paper instead of white and do your painting with white paint instead!
We put all of our paints on to a reusable plate to make them easier to access and dip our craft materials into.
If you like these ideas make sure that you save this page for later so you don’t forget about it or you can pin an image for later.
More Free Templates for Kids
As well as our free mittens templates we’ve got some more free templates on this site which you might like and which are perfect for kids arts and crafts and we always share some ideas for how to use them too, why not check them out:
Handprint Winter Mittens Craft
Got a kid that doesn’t mind getting messy? Yep me too as you can see in the picture! Using a reusable plate is great for this craft so they can squeeze that paint all over their hands but alternatively you can also use a paintbrush and paint you hands – I always think this is a really ticklish way! If you’re doing this craft then I highly recommend keeping a wet cloth or similar so you can wipe up hands once they’ve finished. We saved this craft until last for that reason too. This craft would also make a nice keepsake, just remember to pop the date on it when it’s finished so you can see how small your child’s hands were.
Finger Painted Winter Mittens Craft
Don’t quite fancy the whole of your kids hands covered in paint? I hear you, I definitely have days like that too! Finger painting is a slightly cleaner alternative to full hand printing but it’s still a really good sensory experience, Fun With Mama have a good article on the benefits of finger painting if you’d like to read more about it as well as a recipe for homemade finger paints.
Pom Pom Printed Winter Mittens Craft
Not all kids are keen to get their hands messy so painting with pom poms is a great alternative. You can hold the pom pom itself with your fingers or use a clothes peg to grab hold of it.
Wool Painted Winter Mittens Craft
Why yes we do totally raid our craft box looking for materials we could use! This activity is more of a process art for kids than a craft but it’s a really fun painting idea to try out with your kids if you haven’t done it before.
