I think watermelons might be the quintessential summer food?

They’re certainly the fruit that screams summer to me. With their gorgeous bright colours they’re perfect for inspiring some fun activities and crafts for kids.

Watermelons crafts can be used as an activity on there own or they’re a great addition if you are doing a topic such as fruit activities, healthy eating or as part of a summer topic.

Watermelon Craft Ideas

Watermelon Coloring Page

Always the most simple activity but also the easiest to set up too. Grab colored pens and pencils and color in your watermelon.

Make a Watermelon Fan

Print this PDF onto card and then color it in. Once you’ve finished cut out the watermelon slice and glue or tape it onto a craft stick.

Pom Pom Printing

This fun pom pom painted watermelon craft looks gorgeous and bright and makes a great alternative to reaching for the paintbrushes.

Decorate with Seeds

As well as colouring in your watermelon you could also grab some watermelon seeds and glue these onto where the seeds are in the template.

I’d use PVA glue (school glue) for this rather than a glue stick as they tend to be better for holding different shapes in place. This might be a good way to practice fine motor skills too.

Watermelon Playdough Mat

You could use this template as a playdough mat (laminate it if you want to use it more than once) and get your child to ‘colour in’ the green and pink parts of the watermelon with playdough.

You could use small balls of black playdough for the seeds or why not use black buttons or watermelon seeds themselves? Obviously if you are using small parts with young children then make sure that they are supervised at all times due to the choking risk.
