Ice Cream Craft
This ice cream craft is really easy to make and using our ice cream cone template means that you can make this create with a bunch of kids. It would be great for classrooms or preschoolers but of course you can make it at home with your child too.
If you have a stack of coloured paper or some that’s got a bit folded or messed up then it’s a great way to make sure that you can still get a use out of it and of course it’s always nice to do a craft with your kids that’s something different to just reaching for the paints.

Why Use Torn Paper?
I’m the first to admit that we like to keep things easy in our house but despite that I also know that we like to change things up a bit and while there’s absolutely nothing wrong with just colouring or painting things it makes a nice change to decorate kids crafts in a different way.
We’ve made a lot of mosaic crafts which are a great way of practicing scissor skills but using torn paper is a great way to help with fine motor skills and support hand eye coordination while being creative too.
Your Therapy Source has a good article which talks about the benefits of paper tearing activities if you’d like to find out a bit more about it!
Ice Cream Printable Template
We’ve shared a lot of free templates for kids crafts and it’s something that we add to regularly so it’s worth checking out if you like crafting with your child but don’t always want to draw ideas out first.
Our ice cream template is available as a free PDF and you can print as many copies as you like.
How To Make a Torn Paper Ice Cream
Start by printing off your ice cream template. You can of course just draw an ice cream yourself if you would prefer.
Next tear up some paper. Scrap paper is great for this or I often find that if I’ve bought a pack of coloured paper there’s a bit that’s ended up half used and I like to try and get the most out of all our craft materials!
You can let your child choose their favourite colours or try and replicate those of their favourite ice cream. I like to think that mine is a vanilla ice cream with strawberry bits!
Cover your ice cream with glue and place your torn coloured paper all over your ice cream to colour in the area. You can also try tearing out larger and smaller shapes to fit onto your craft.
I often find that brown coloured paper can be harder to come across as many packs of coloured paper tend to go for primary colours. A good way around this is to use brown paper like the kind you get for wrapping parcels or for this craft I’ve used a brown paper bag.
As with the ice cream itself, tear the brown paper into pieces and stick it onto the ice cream cone on your template.
When you have finished colouring in all the areas your craft is done.
