Oh I do like to be (heavily pregnant) by the seaside!

Updated on 21st February 2020 by Kate Williams | 18 Comments

Do you remember a little while ago I wrote a post about how to take to take your own photographs during pregnancy? Well, as fate would have it, while I was writing that post I was contacted by Marie Donn to see if I fancied doing some maternity photos with her.

Marie is a proper photographer and does gorgeous lifestyle shoots so of course I said yes. And then the panic set in. I am not a supermodel. I am a normal woman, in my early thirties, living in Essex. Generally, I am quite happy with the above facts, but when you realise that someone is going to take pictures of you, being as normal a woman as you can be while heavily pregnant…. well, I was a little bit worried.

Thankfully, when I met Marie last week she was as calming as I could have hoped for. She’s pregnant too, so understands that you want to look nice, round but not huge, natural and not, as I keep being told by random strangers last week ‘really big’. (Note, I did put them straight. Politely, but possibly not as politely as I could have.) And of course we went down to the seaside to take the photos, where else?!

And these are the results. I’m trying hard not to write ‘Look at that bit of fat just there!’ because I know how pointless that is. And I think my brain is slowly winning that argument. I’m pregnant, I’m not huge and I know that in a few weeks time I will look back on these with my new daughter sitting on my lap and think what an amazing thing I did to carry her for nine months.

This is a time for celebration, not a time for self-deprecation. I probably won’t have another child. I’m eternally thankful to be blessed with The Toddler and his baby sister who we will be meeting soon. And I’m very thankful to Marie for helping me to appreciate that pregnancy is something to be marveled at. I’m really happy with these pictures, I hope you like them too.

Love kate x

You look so beautiful! (Although may be a little chilly at times?) Stunning photos – such a wonderful thing to have to look back on. I wish I’d taken more photos of myself when I was pregnant, but I was totally in that “I’m so fat” mentality!

Yeah it wasn’t the warmest of days! Thankfully the water was really warm though which I didn’t expect at all!

Gorgeous! You look so beautiful in your gorgeous yellow dress. I love Marie’s work and love your maternity shots. I really wish I’d had some professional images taken when I was pregnant – it’s such a special time and I wish I had some proper photographs to remind me of that time xo

Those are great pictures and you look gorgeous. As a woman in my early 40’s who’s had 5 children over the last 19 years I can assure you that in a couple of years at most you will look at these photo’s and won’t be able to understand why you couldn’t see how beautiful you were at the time 🙂

I hope the birth is amazing x
