As a mom of two kids I’ve always been a fan of low-cost and low mess activities. Sometimes you just need something easy that you can do with your kids that doesn’t require half an hour of cleaning up afterwards!

Dot markers are pretty new to me but I love how easy they are to use especially as they have a thicker pen that’s perfect for little hands.

Bugs, insects and minibeasts are always a popular topic with kids, both because they’re something that kids seem to be naturally curious about and because it’s a great topic to team up with spending more time outdoors.

While I know that a snails and spiders aren’t actually insects (a snail is a mollusk and a spider is an arachnid) I know that they’re both animals that my kids were interested in and they fit well with a preschool minibeast topic so I had to include them!

These bug dot art activities are a great way to help support your child’s fine motor skills and color recognition and if you like dot marker activities then you might want to check out our spring dot marker printables, summer dot marker printables and farm animal dot marker printables too.

What Can I Use Instead of Dot Markers?

I love the bright colors of these dot markers and they’re great as a low mess activity but if you want to try something different there’s lots of easy alternatives.

Finger painting and pom poms are both good ways of supporting fine motor skills too or if you’d like something low mess why not choose some dot stickers to decorate your pictures.
