Vegetable Garden Craft for Kids

When the weather starts to warm up I definitely start to get excited about getting outdoors more often. My kids have always been interested in gardening and growing things and I think that it’s pretty common with kids generally, after all it can get muddy and messy which is normally a pretty popular idea!

This vegetable cut and paste worksheet includes everything kids need to build their own garden scene with plants, tools and decorations including a wheelbarrow, plant pots and a worm.

As well as being a good activity for spring this veg patch craft could also be a great option for fall, harvest and Thanksgiving when we start to think about the food that’s been grown over the year.

While most vegetables are grown on farms there’s still a lot that are grown at home and in allotments too.

This gardening craft is really easy to make and you only need the most basic of supplies to do it, in fact once you’ve downloaded the PDF file you probably already have everything that you’ll need at home or in your classroom.

Craft Supplies Needed

  • Vegetable patch craft PDF
  • White paper
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • Coloring pencils, colored markers or crayons

How To Make Your Vegetable Garden Craft

Start by printing out the PDF of your vegetable patch onto white paper, you’ll need to print out both pages and normal white printer paper is usually fine for this, it’s what I’ve used for the images that you can see in the photos.

Next grab your coloring materials and get started coloring in both pages. I think this would be a nice activity to team with a snack so why not grab some tomatoes or carrot sticks to munch on while you color.

Once all of the items on the first page and your allotment scene on the second page are all colored in it’s time to grab your scissors and cut out all of the items. You’ll find a dotted line around each item to help guide you.

Now it’s time to glue all of your gardening items onto your scene. Make sure that you stick each of your vegetable markers next to the correct vegetable eg put the potatoes sign next to the potatoes.

I would also recommend adding the wheelbarrow at this point as it’s quite big and you don’t want to run out of room for it.

Glue on your watering can, boots, plant pots and worms and your scene is finished.

More Garden Activities for Kids

I’ve shared loads of free printables and resources to help you have fun with your kids and inspire them to get outside and into nature.

This outdoor scavenger hunt is one that was really popular with both my kids and they can do it as a collaboration or make it more into a competition to see who can find everything first.

You’ll also find both ‘garden’ and ‘backyard’ spellings on it so you can pick the one that’s right for your family.

If you’re looking for some nature themed worksheets then these color mixing worksheets are a great option with eleven pages that you can download featuring flowers, butterflies and ladybugs.

Finally our butterfly template is one that you can use for lots of different art and craft activities including this butterfly nature craft that I made with my daughter.

I love these crafts. I’ve used them before, but sadly I haven’t been able to download them for a couple of months now. I’ve tried multiple email addresses and checked all the spam folders. I don’t know what more to do. Any help would be appreciated!

Hi Kate – I’ve tried emailing you the PDF but your email address is blocking me which I would guess is also causing the other issues too! If you’d like to email me from another account I’m happy to send you the PDF or you could try asking your employers to unblock my site x
