Even though my kids are now past the weaning stage I remember all too well the eternal search for some good finger food ideas for baby led weaning, actually in fact for any baby led weaning ideas – of course the idea behind baby led weaning is that your baby can eat whatever you eat but as someone who tends to eat a cheese and ham sandwich pretty much every day I know I needed some inspiration too to get me out of a rut!
Ideas for baby led weaning are always really popular here so I’ve asked some of my favourite bloggers to share their tried and tested ideas (I’m going to try out some with my kids too!).
Need more inspiration? Stay tuned to the end of the post where I’ve got some baby led weaning meal inspiration too.

What is baby led weaning?
Baby led weaning is basically giving your child the same meal that you eat. There’s lots of information on the NHS website here but the main things to look out for are choking hazards and salt content.
I am by no means an expert on baby led weaning but it is something that I did with my daughter who totally refused to eat of a spoon (you can see my list of 40 foods she ate before she had teeth here as she didn’t cut a tooth until just before her first birthday either).
My son on the other hand did have some purees but I still needed some inspiration for finger foods otherwise there would have been a lot of toast involved!
Two of the books I really found were helpful were The Baby Led Weaning Cookbook and The River Cottage Baby and Toddler Cookbook. My other essential buys were these bibs which in my opinion were worth every penny and an antilop highchair from Ikea which lasted both my kids – something that can be said for very few things!
