This easy Earth Day activity is super quick to set up using our free template so it’s perfect if you want something simple to do with the kids. Using fingerprints makes this a great Earth Day craft for preschoolers and toddlers although obviously you can use it with older kids too, I’ll be making this with my two this year who are much older!
In this post as well as the template I’ll be sharing some more easy Earth Day crafts for kids including another craft that uses the same template.

Earth Day Craft
Earth Day is a great thing to celebrate with kids but sometimes it can be hard finding craft ideas that are suitable for younger children.
This Earth art is quick and simple to prepare, fun to make and using finger painting also means that it would make a cute keepsake too, what’s not to love?
Using our free template also means that this is a really low cost activity which is always a good thing too!

About Finger Painting
Finger painting is a great activity for kids but if they don’t like the feel of paint on their fingers you could use a pom pom or a cotton bud instead to get the same effect.
It’s also a good way to paint for young children who can’t always manipulate a paint brush how they would like to yet. Learning 4 Kids also describes how finger painting is good for kids as “it strengthens the finger and small hand muscles developing pre-writing skills.”
You could also make the green paint by mixing blue and yellow paints if you’d like to look at colour mixing with your child.
Free Earth Template
We love using templates to create art and crafts for kids because it helps make them easy to prepare both at home or in classrooms and preschools.
For this Earth day painting I’ve used our free printable Earth template and you can print as many copies as you’d like of it. It’s one that we’ve used a lot for other activities too as you can see with this torn paper Earth craft which you could make using scrap paper to talk about recycling too.
Finger Painted Earth Day Craft
When you are doing finger painting it’s normally easiest if you pop the paint onto a plate first so that your children can dip their fingers into it, this is quite a fun sensory activity in itself!
We have found though that small pots with wide openings can also be really good for finger painting too – and also mean that we have less washing up afterwards.
Make sure that you also have some cloths or wipes to hand so that you can clean your child’s fingers before they wander off – finger painting on paper is great but no one wants finger painting on their walls.
