Looking for a excavator or digger template that you can use with your child? We have two free designs that you can download, perfect for construction crafts or just as a simple coloring sheet for kids.
What You'll Find on This Page
Free Digger Template
Diggers (or excavators as they’re also known) are something that were always a popular thing in our household with my kids. Whether it’s through the influence of watching Bob The Builder, playing with construction toys at the the beach or just from spying them on road trips I don’t know but I know that they definitely are loved!
There are two different designs available in the PDF and all you need to do is choose your favorite one to print – or of course you can print them both!
The first design is slightly more basic and is perfect if you want to add some building materials to your picture while the second has a little more detail.
The designs are great if you’re working with a group, after all none of us really have the time to be drawing out 30 diggers.
Digger Craft Ideas
Coloring
Coloring is always a great option for kids as it’s one that they enjoy and it’s so easy to set up. All you need to do is print out whichever digger template you want, grab markers, crayons or coloring pencils and you’re ready to get started.
Add Some Building Materials
What is your digger lifting? Why not grab the glue and add something for them, sand would be great for this or for something that’s more likely to be in your cupboard why not try gluing on some cheerios as fake rocks?
If you want to glue materials with some weight to them such as these then I would suggest printing your PDF onto cardstock first to make it a little more sturdy.
Try a Different Painting Technique
Instead of reaching for the paintbrush why not try using a different material? We love toothbrushes, pom poms, finger painting and bingo dabbers.
Grab Those Construction Toys
Ok, it’s not going to look like the most perfectly painted thing ever but painting with toy construction vehicles is a lot of fun!
Pour a little paint onto a plate or tray and place your digger template into a larger tray onto a well protected table. Roll your toy through the paint and then roll it over the picture to paint it using the colored tyre marks.
