This fun little Valentines Day craft for preschoolers is a great way to use up old CDs or DVDs that you have lying around (man was I happy to see the back of some of those DVD’s!) and gives young kids the chance to try out painting on a fun new surface. This is possibly more of a process art than a craft as there’s no strict way that it should look at the end, but I think it’s good for preschoolers to do crafting without too much adult influence. My two year old certainly enjoyed making these! I’ve included below a couple of ideas for things to do with them afterwards too and how different age preschoolers might do this Valentine’s Day craft differently.

Easy Valentines Day Craft for Preschoolers:
I set up the table for my daughter with all our red and pink paints out, some heart shaped foil stickers, the CDs and a paintbrush and let her go for it! She enjoyed looking at the CD’s, turning them over and having a good look, as I normally try to keep the kids (often dirty) fingers away from CDs and DVDs I guess she’s never really had the chance to investigate before and it’s always fun to play with something off limits!
Older preschoolers will enjoy putting the stickers into patterns or painting patterns onto the CDs but as my daughter is only young she enjoyed the experience of sploshing the paint around, and then getting messy while she added the stickers amongst the paint
What to do with your CD craft
- Pop it on the wall. There’s no shame at all in just keeping it as it is, that’s what we’re doing!
- Put some string through the middle and hang it up as a Valentine’s Day ornament or wind spinner
- Cut them up to make mosaic tiles for more crafting fun!
This is such a lovely idea Kate, we have loads of CD’s lying around too. Although POD is no longer a pre-schooler, she loves crafting and would be quite happy to give some of my old CD’s a lick of paint!
