Every time I think that’s it for Halloween crafting this year something else comes up that we want to make! I suppose I shouldn’t be that surprised that with a Batman obsessed toddler that a request for paper plate bats happened (‘lets make bats mummy!’ ‘Err… yep I think I can work that one out!’) These were so much fun to do, we did them sat next to each other, both working on the task and we were both really happy with how they turned out.

This is the first time in about a year that my son has let me photograph him for my blog, but he loved these so much he wanted his picture taken with them! That’s not me telling him to cover his face either, he just genuinely wanted to show as much of his paper plate bats as possible, bless!
To make paper plate bats you will need:
2 Paper plates per bat
Black paint
Scissors
Sellotape
Glue
Googly eyes
You may notice that one of the bats is actually a bit purple, that’s because after I used our stained glass pumpkin and pumpkin painting crafts to teach about how to mix colours my son now wants to mix colours all the time! He’s also told me he’s an artist so I’m not going to argue with him 😉
How to make it:
Paint both plates black (or, err, purple). When they are dry fold one plate lightly in half to give you a guideline on where to cut the wings. Cut them out using a curved W shape and then stick them to the back of the main body of the bat using tape.
Using the leftover pits of plate you can now cut out ears and teeth for your bat.
You could probably use some left over bits of the plate to make eyes too but we are massive fans of googly eyes round here so that’s what we used!
