What You'll Find on This Page
Gratitude Jar for Kids
Gratitude jars are a great idea for children but if there’s ever been a jam jar or mason jar dropped in your home then you’ll understand the appeal of a paper version. Plus if you’re looking to do this activity with a large group of kids, such as in a classroom, you’ll know how tricky it can be to get hold of thirty jars at short notice.
Our printable gratitude jar means that once you have the PDF file you’re ready to get started, all you need are some really basic craft supplies that you probably already own.
In the PDF file for this activity you’ll find three different jar designs: one with yellow, green and red hearts; one with yellow, green and blue hearts and one in black and white. You’ll also find three pages with extra hearts in corresponding colors.
Craft Materials Needed:
- Gratitude jar PDF
- White printer paper
- Scissors
- Glue
- Marker pen
- Optional – coloring pencils
How To Make A Gratitude Jar
Start by printing your PDF onto white paper. You only need to print out the pages that you’ll be using so make sure that you check your printer settings.
If you are likely to want to use this activity over a period of time, for example over the course of a week rather than as a one off activity, then I would recommend printing the PDF onto white cardstock instead.
If you are doing the black and white version of this activity then now is the time to grab your coloring pencil and color in your hearts and the jar. Make sure that you write your name on the label.
Using your scissors cut out the jar shape, hearts and jar’s label, you’ll find a dotted line around all of them to help you. Glue the label onto the jar.
If you’d like to you could also add some more decorations to your jar to make it more personalised, how about glitter glue, stickers or ribbon.
One each of the hearts you can now write something that you are grateful for. You might be able to fill all the hearts straight away or you might choose to fill out one or two hearts a day and fill your jar up with things over the space of a week, adding more hearts to it each day.
If you are doing this activity with younger kids you can either ask them to draw a picture of the thing that they are thankful for or you could write the thing down for them.
If your child is struggling to think of things that they can write down then you could try giving them some prompts, was there something nice they ate for dinner over the weekend? How about someone who played with them or helped them with something? Do they have a pet?
Finally glue your heart onto the main part of the jar. Don’t forget there’s additional pages of hearts in the PDF file if you need more to write things on to.
