What You'll Find on This Page
Kings Coronation Crafts
These coronation activities and crafts are ones that I’ve shared myself on this blog or ones that I’ve found that I thought my kids would enjoy or that I know they would have loved when they were a bit younger.
There are free printables, craft tutorials and a fantastic sensory play idea that would be great for this theme too.
I hope you have loads of fun trying them out and getting excited about the big day.
If you don’t live in the UK (or even if you do!) why not try teaming these up with a British themed picnic? We love cucumber sandwiches, mini sausage rolls, strawberries and some scones with jam and cream to finish off.
What Is A Coronation?
A coronation is a symbolic ceremony where a crown is officially placed on the King or Queen’s head.
Charles became King immediately when Queen Elizabeth died so he will continue to hold the same title he does currently but after the coronation ceremony Camilla will change from being the Queen Consort to Queen Camilla.
When Is The Kings Coronation?
The Coronation of King Charles III will take place in London on 6th May. There will be a 1.3 mile procession from Buckingham Palace to Westminster Abbey which King Charles and Queen Camilla will travel in a horse drawn carriage.
In the UK there will be an extra bank holiday in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland on Monday 8th May so it’s a great opportunity to make the most of the festivities and have fun over the long weekend.

You can use these as Coronation colouring sheets or as posters to display at home or in your classroom or preschool and the designs include Jack Russell terriers and corgis, crowns, hearts, the Union Jack flag and some bunting.
Build King Charles
Ok, I am happy to admit that I am absolutely in love with this gorgeous King Charles printable from The Purple Pumpkin Blog!
You can get the free download in colour or black and white and then cut out the different parts using scissors before gluing them together.
This is one I think my kids would adore, I can see our printed King coming to a street party or Coronation Big Lunch with us!
Coronation Wand Craft
This printable Coronation craft is free to download and is really easy to make, plus you only need really basic materials!
We think this would be great fun to make and then play with as you take part in the celebrations.
Printable Crown
Red Ted Art has a royal crown that you can print out and color that would be fantastic for some dressing up. I love that you can colour in jewels for your crown too.
This craft includes a fair amount of cutting so may be better for older kids.
Printable Union Jack
We have four different designs for our free printable Union Jack flag, you can use it to colour in or why not try making a collage or finger painting it?
Paper Bag Puppets
Ok, so this one isn’t strictly a King craft but it’s so easily adaptable I thought I had to share it.
When my daughter was four she came up with the idea for this paper bag princess craft. While Charles obviously isn’t a princess it wouldn’t take much to adapt it – change the colour of hair from blonde to gray and this would be great for Queen Camilla or cut the hair shorter to make it into King Charles.
This is a great one for practicing scissor skills, the stick on gems are good for supporting fine motor skills and you can use it as a puppet so it’s good for imaginative skills too!
Coronation Bunting
This free printable Coronation bunting is great both as an activity to keep your kids busy and feeling involved in the celebrations and also as a way to add some themed decor to your home or classroom without breaking the bank.
If you’re organising a street party or Big Coronation Lunch you could also print a load of these and put them out on a table with some felt tip pens and then hang them up as they’re made for some decorations that have been made by your community.
Paper Plate Crown
This easy paper plate crown craft from Where Imagination Grows is perfect for younger kids.
Paper plates are such a cheap and easy to find craft material that it would be good for making in classrooms and preschools where you could make this with groups and let them use their imagination to decorate them.
Sponge Painted Castle
Create your own simple castle craft using sponges and some paint!
Just pour some paint onto a plate or tray and then dip a rectangular sponge into it, making sure that as much of bottom surface is covered as is possible then dab it onto a piece of paper or cardstock to make a castle shape.
You could also cut out triangular shapes from some sponge to make some turrets for your castle.
Design Your Own Cypher
King Charles’ Cypher was first revealed in September and is a monogram that will be used eventually on post boxes, you can see it here on the BBC website.
Why not create your own monogram using your initials and drawing a crown above them!
Toilet Roll Castle
Crafty Morning has a great toilet roll castle craft that would be fun for some small world play too.
London Guards Craft
The London Guards (or King’s Guards) are absolutely iconic with their red uniforms and black hats.
Here The Gingerbread House shows you how you can make your own guards using craft sticks, I love that her daughter planned on using these as bookmarks too.
Union Jack Handprints
Entertaining Monsters made some Union Jack handprints with her daughter for the Jubilee celebrations and even managed to turn them into some bunting.
I think these look fabulous and they’d be a great way to decorate your home or classroom or you could hang them up at your street party.
Royal Carriage Paper Plate Craft
Paper plate crafts will always be a favourite here and I love to see the ones that people’s kids have made.
This gold state coach craft from Treading On Lego looks perfect and should be one that toddlers and preschoolers can happily join in with as they paint the carriage.
Union Jack Sensory Play
Any kind of sensory play is normally a popular choice with kids and this gorgeous looking Union Jack themed idea from The Fairy and The Frog will have you wanting to join in too.
Fortune Teller
This printable fortune teller from Red Ted Art is free to download and has two different designs for you to choose from.
You can pick a Union Jack design or opt for one which includes the King’s Coronation emblem – or of course you can print and make them both.
