Paper Plate Christmas Unicorn Craft

18th November 2019 by Kate Williams | Leave a Comment

unicorn christmas craft for kids paper plateChristmas unicorn crafts? Really? If I’m honest, when I started to make this paper plate Christmas unicorn I did start to question my sanity a little bit. I mean, unicorns aren’t the most traditional of Christmas animals are they, would anyone really want to make a Christmas unicorn craft? Then that evening my daughter came home and saw the stack of things I’d been working on that day.

Guess what?

Yep, the thing she was instantly drawn to was this paper plate unicorn craft, grabbing a plate and some glitter card and getting started on it.

So this might not be Santa or Rudolph or an elf but it is cute and it is pretty festive and most importantly it made a kid want to do something creative rather than just switch the tv on, which has got to be a good thing.

If you like this craft and know a kid that might enjoy making it too then make sure you bookmark this page or pin an image for later, plus you’ll find more ideas for paper plate Christmas crafts at the end of this post.

To make this unicorn paper plate craft you’ll obviously need to start with a paper plate*. Grab some coloured card (we’ve used glitter card* to make it look that bit more magical) and cut out a horn shape for your unicorn.

Stick the unicorn’s horn onto your paper plate with some kid friendly glue – this one* is our favourite at the moment as it’s clear so you can see what your craft will look like when it’s finished.

Next cut out some holly shapes from green cardstock* and small red circles from red cardstock* for the berries. If you don’t fancy cutting the berries out then another option could be using a hole punch*. Stick both the berries and holly at the base of your unicorn’s horn.

Next grab some pens so you can draw on the unicorns eyes, ears and nostrils. I’ve also added some cheeks using a pink pen as I think it makes the unicorn look cuter that way, besides it’s cold outside right now so pink cheeks are pretty much where we’re at.

Your paper plate Christmas unicorn paper plate is done and ready to show off! If you’re kids love unicorn crafts then I’d really recommend taking a peak at our DIY unicorn pencil holder too which was a hugely popular with my daughter and has lots of pictures on Pinterest of ones other peoples kids have made (which I absolutely LOVE by the way!)
