Paper Plate Lion Craft for Kids

2nd May 2018 by Kate Williams | 3 Comments

ROAR! Ok this lion craft for kids might not be the most scary around (actually I think he’s kind of cute) but he certainly is fun to make. We love paper plate crafts and this one uses a fun painting technique to get a great effect on your lions mane.

Let’s make it!

I’ve made a little video tutorial for this post so you can watch how it was made or read the written instructions underneath if you would prefer.

Start by cutting out the shape of your lions face from one of your paper plates, most of them are round in the middle which gives you a nice easy line to follow – don’t forget the ears! Paint your lions face yellow and leave to dry.

Next up is your lions mane. Put some orange and yellow paint in bowls or plates so that it’s easy to access and then make your pom pom paint brushes by clipping a pom pom onto the end of a clothes peg. Dip your pom poms into the red and yellow paint and then use these to paint your lions mane. I’ve alternated orange and yellow lines but any kind of printing is good!

Once both paper plates are dry draw on your your lions face using a black pen (I’ve used this one which is great for drawing on paint and pretty much the most useful thing I own for my kids clothes too). Stick the two paper plates together and your lion craft is done!

If you like this craft make sure that you bookmark this page or pin an image so that you don’t forget to make it.

Finally this doily rabbit is one of our most popular animal crafts, not as likely to be seen inn the jungle as our lion but certainly very cute!
