Summer Scavenger Hunt For Kids
I love getting outdoors with my kids but sometimes they’re not always quite so keen. I love doing scavenger hunts with them because it turns any outing into something more fun.
They enjoy the walk and I do too, that’s got to be a win!
This fun scavenger hunt has 15 items to look out for that you can color plus an idea for an activity you can try if you like and a reminder to try and smell the grass – one of our favorite scents of the season.
Having different items that you can color means that this is one of those fun summer activities that the whole family can join in with. Toddlers and preschoolers can recognise the pictures while older children will be able to read the words.
It’s a great way to spend some quality time together and you could even use it on day trips or a summer vacation as a way to discover the local wildlife. I think it would make a great activity for summer camp too!
Do I Need To Find Every Item In The Scavenger Hunt?
Absolutely not! It’s impossible to know exactly what you’ll see when you are out on a walk so we’ve gone with some options that you might hopefully see but don’t worry if you can’t find them all, looking for them is the fun bit!
If you do want to do this scavenger hunt as some kind of competition then the winner could be the person or team that finds the most items.
If you do want to offer a prize for the person or team who finds the most items on the checklist then how about an ice cream? You might end up getting one for everyone though, in this case I really don’t have a problem with participation prizes!
Where Can You Do A Summer Scavenger Hunt?
This activity was designed to be used for a walk but really it’s up to you!
You could go for a hike in the woods, a walk in the countryside or use it on a walk round your neighborhood, whatever keeps your kids having fun.
And if your walk is just around your backyard then that’s totally fine too, whatever makes your day more fun.
What You’ll Need
Firstly of course you’ll need to print out the PDF file itself. I recommend using a color printer and ink for this with plain white paper as it looks better but if you only have black and white that’s fine.
You’ll also want a pen, marker or coloring pencils and you may find a clipboard helpful for leaning on while you color in the images.
