What You'll Find on This Page
Rocket Template
Space activities are a great choice for kids because they’re the perfect way to encourage your child’s imagination, who knows what planets, aliens and adventures await us out there?
This free template is great for using as part of a space-themed unit but if you just need something to keep your kiddo entertained on a rainy day then that works for us too!
In the PDF pack you’ll find six different designs, the first three all have a vertical rocket ranging from a basic outline to one with more details and the second three have a rocket aimed diagonally again each with slightly more details and with the final rocket having flames shootiong out from it.
You can print all six or just choose the one that suits your project the best.
Rocket Craft Ideas
Coloring
Coloring is one of the most easy activities to prepare for kids but handily it’s normally one that they enjoy too and it’s perfect as a quiet time activity or as a simple activity for young children.
To use these printables as rocket coloring sheets just print your favorite design onto white printer paper and then grab some crayons, coloring pencils or colored markers to get started.
Handprint Flames
I love handprint craft for kids as they make such gorgeous keepsakes. I’m never going to stop getting a little teary eyed at how tiny my kids hands used to be!
Use red, yellow and orange paints or just red and yellow if you’d like to use this as an excuse to look at color mixing too – will any of the paint turn orange as you create your handprint?
To use this free rocket ship template as a handprint craft you can either use the printable with the rocket aiming towards the corner and do a handprint underneath or if your child’s hands are too big for the space then why not cut the rocket out and glue it onto something else before you do the handprint.
This could work really well as a paper plate craft too as you could have the rocket flying off the paper plate!
Add Photos
Why not add a photo of your child to this template to make them into an astronaut?
Once you’ve colored in the rocket itself just grab a photo and then use scissors to cut it into a circle shape.
Glue the photo down onto the rocket where the circular window would be and they’re ready to launch for some adventures in their spaceship. You could use this as a writing prompt too!
Tissue Paper Flames
Color in your rocket and then cut tissue paper into strips before gluing it to the bottom of the rocket ship to make some flames.
You could also scrunch the tissue paper before gluing it down to create more of a 3D effect.
Change The Background
For a simple space craft once you’ve colored in your rocket grab your scissors and carefully cut it out.
Grab some blue or black paper or cardstock paper and glue your rocket onto it, you can now add some details to the picture to make it look like your rocket is flying through the galaxy!
Star stickers will work perfectly for this and using stickers is great for supporting fine motor skills too but you could also try adding dots of yellow or white paint onto your picture for stars or cut out moon or planet shapes from scrap paper before sticking those on.
