Paper Plate Thor Helmet DIY

Updated on 25th March 2015 by Kate Williams | 20 Comments

So, a couple of weeks back I posted a tutorial on how to make a Captain America shield from paper plates that was super popular with my son and it got me thinking. We love superhero crafts (heck, we love everything superhero!) so what else could we make ourselves? The answer of course was this simple Thor helmet DIY that we made with paper plates and some cardboard from the recycling bin. Needless to say it’s been a hit too!

Paper Plate Thor Helmet DIYWhat you need:

One paper plate

Cardboard (a cereal packet is perfect)

Silver paint. Mine was from The Range and was about £2.50

Glue gun

How to make a Thor Helmet:

First cut the wing shape side pieces out of your paper plate. Wobbly edged paper plates work best for this! You can turn the first one over and cut around it to make sure both sides are the same size. This is what mine looked like.

Thor avengers craftThen cut a long strip from your cardboard ta make the headpiece. This will need to go down slightly where your child’s nose will be.

The next day I measured the headpiece to fit his head and then glued it to the correct width using a glue gun. The entire lengh of the cereal packet was just right for a four year olds head – phew! I then added the little wings on the side and job done! I’m going to be honest and say I’m pretty pleased with this and now planning what superhero DIY to do next!

As an aside, I don’t normally have loads of pictures of my kids on here but man this was tricky to photograph! Anyway, look at this little dudes face – you can tell this was popular, right?!

Love it! I was going to say that I don’t think my girls would be interested in making one but thinking about it a bit more, I reckon Ella would love it!
