With 4th of July coming up I thought it would be fun to share this easy paper bag craft for kids with you. We love crafts using materials that are easily available or crafting with recycled materials so this Uncle Sam kids craft is perfect.
Although we like in the UK rather than the USA I love teaching my kids about other countries celebrations and traditions, frankly they love any excuse to make something and have a bit of a celebration. This craft is also great because you can use it as a puppet once you’ve made it too so it’s perfect for keeping the kids busy and happy!
As well as this cool craft I’ve shared loads more fun 4th July crafts for kids and American flag crafts so make sure you check them all out at the end of this post.

Materials to make your paper bag Uncle Sam kids craft
Paper bag
Glue
Scissors
Black and white pens
Red, white and blue cardstock
Let’s make it!
To make the hat first cut out a large square from the white cardstock and then make stripes using the red cardstock and glue these on. You could draw these on instead if you like but it’s great for practicing scissor skills.
To make the brim of the hat cut out a rectangle from blue cardstock and then draw on some stars in white – I used the white one of these pens but white star stickers like these ones would also work well. Glue the two bits of the hat together and then glue it to the top of the paper bag.
For the paper bags themselves I tend to use ones from the bakery bit in Morrisons (no apologies for that!) but you can buy them online here if you want to do this with a group.
Cut a beard shape out of white cardstock and stick it on, not forgetting to add in the eyes, nose and mouth using a black marker pen.
Your Uncle Sam kids craft is done and is ready for playing with!
