We’ve started to do a few autumn crafts over the last week and this sweet fine motor skills craft was a quick idea after my kids asked for one more thing to make. At six my son is good with his letters but he’s enjoying helping my daughter (3) learn her alphabet. Her interest in letters has come as a total surprise to me but I’m happy to go with it! This autumn letter craft is super quick to set up and can be easily adapted as you’ll see below.

To make your autumn fine motor skills craft you will need:
Coloured card or paper in autumn colours – red, orange, green and yellow
Scissors
Let’s make it:
We started by cutting some coloured paper into squares and then we made the letter A on another piece of paper using glue. For my son this was easy while my daughter needed some help so we did the glue together. This was also a really good opportunity to talk about autumn colours and cutting up the paper is a great way to practice scissor skills too.
The kids then glued the cut up paper onto the letter A – grabbing hold of the paper squares and fixing it onto the squares is a great way for them to practice their fine motor skills. They also enjoyed decorating their letters with some fake autumn leaves that I’d bought – I love using real autumn leaves for crafting but sometimes, like when it’s raining, it’s not always that practical to get them ready to glue or paint.
While the kids made letter A this would also be really easy to adapt – we talked about how in America autumn is called Fall so we made a simple letter F as well and you could also use this idea to spell out whole words instead, perhaps autumn itself or leaves or the names of each month.

This is such a good idea, and such Autumnal colours, I can’t wait for Autumn to kick in properly x
Oh I like this idea. A lovely way to encourage your children to start learning their letters and explore their natural environment. One of my nanny children is almost 4 and he really struggles with learning his letters and doesn’t know his colours yet. He will get there but I will try this activity as it encourages letters and colours and he loves sticking!
Hope he enjoys it 🙂
My daughter is just getting to grips with her letters so this is a great idea for her, will definitely be trying it out.
Very nice idea to enhance kids fine motor skills. Love the autumnal colours
Thank you 🙂
