DIY Monogram Applique

Updated on 28th April 2023 by Kate Williams | 1 Comment

I was really excited to be asked by Harveys if I’d like to work with them on their Spring By You campaign. My home is a mixture of things I’ve bought, things I’ve made and things that I’ve done up (plus all the kids stuff!) and I love to try and be a bit creative around our home where I can. Spring is the perfect excuse to get your home how you want it and today I’m sharing a tutorial for a simple DIY monogram applique that I made for my daughters room.

To make this you will need

Fabric in two different colours

Cotton

Fabric scissors

Pins

Needle or sewing machine

How to make your DIY monogram applique

Cut the letter you want out of one of the pieces of fabric, the first letter of your child’s name is perfect for this. I used a fabric sample from Harveys for my initial and the background material is from an old pair of maternity jeans! Pin the letter into place onto the other fabric.

Using your sewing machine, sew around the letter a few times to hold it in place, you can do this by hand but obviously it’s a lot quicker with a machine. The edges will fray slightly but this gives it a nice homemade shabby chic look that’s perfect for kids rooms. Pop your finished sewing into a frame and it’s ready to hang.

I’m moving home shortly which means I’ll have a new place to decorate, needless to say I’m pretty excited about that! Harvey’s asked me if I’d like to try out their Sofas by You quiz to see what kind of sofa would suit me (and my new home) best. I was really happy to see the result was their Buxton sofa, it’s a gorgeous shape and I love the range of colours that it comes in, the grey would suit me perfectly as it means you can put lots of nice coloured things with it easily. I’d love to know what sofa they choose for you so do try out their quiz! I’ve also created a Pinterest board of loads of gorgeous things to go with the Buxton sofa, I adore the unicorn print and the coloured lights and I can’t cope without blankets in my front room! Do go and take a look and of course pin anything that takes your fancy!

I love this – I have one of Eliza’s dresses I don’t want to get rid of and this is perfect to use it for
