Rose Scented Playdough (and Elmer Activity!)

Updated on 22nd September 2020 by Kate Williams | 14 Comments

This week both my kids have been ill so while my daughter slept it off I wanted to do a simple activity with my son that he could still enjoy while feeling a bit under the weather. He adores playdoh so I thought that this rose scented playdough might be a fun introduction to making our own scented ones.

Rose Scented Play Dough

What you will need:

500ml plain flour

180ml salt

120ml hot water

Red or pink food colouring

Rose food flavouring (I used Tescos)

How to make your Rose Scented Playdough:

Put the hot water in a bowl, then add a small amount of the scent (it’s strong!) and colouring.

Add the flour and salt and mix it all together. If your dough is a bit sticky add some more flour and this should sort it out.

Elmer and Rose ActivityAs luck would have it, we’d just read Elmer and Rose. If you saw my round up of Elmer crafts and activities you’ll know that we love Elmer so this was an excuse to turn this into another Elmer activity for us too! I split the dough into three parts and added more colouring to the second two so our dough could get pinker just like Rose does! It would be fun to play with elephant cutters with this or to make it into elephant shapes!

Have you tried making scented play dough? What scents do you like?

Love this. I tried making raspberry play dough, but it didn’t come out nearly as nice as yours!

i’ve never made playdough, we’ve always just used the bought stuff. Although my mum used to make it for us when we were children.

It was our first time making it for about a year or so, we are big fans of the ‘proper stuff’ too 🙂

Having never made play dough before, my little girl has been asking me to make sparkly play dough (?!) but I like the idea of scenting it too 🙂 Nice simple play dough recipe too – I keep finding ones with cream of tartar… Pinning this one! #pintorials

You can get really fine glitter in The Range for £1, I got some today for exactly that reason!
