Spider Cut and Paste Craft

I love sharing free printables for kids crafts and cut and paste activities have to be my new favorites, hopefully this build a spider craft will be a new favorite for you too!

You can make this paper craft exactly as I have by following the instructions below but if you’d like to change things up a bit why not try adding googly eyes, drawing on vampire fangs, swapping the paper spider’s legs for pipe cleaners or sticking your spider onto a paper plate – you could draw a spider’s web onto there too.

As well as this easy spider craft you’ll also find details of some great spider themed books for kids in this article as well as details of some of my favorite Halloween crafts for kids.

Spider Books for Kids

I love sharing stories with my kids and I think that it’s really nice if you can do a bit of a theme and match an activity with a book to read together.

Which of these books would you add to your child’s library?

  • Walter’s Wonderful Web by Tim Hopgood
  • National Geographic Kids: Spiders by Laura Marsh
  • Pete The Cat and The Itsy Bitsy Spider by James Dean

How To Build Your Spider Craft

You can print your PDF onto paper or card depending on what you have available.

Cardstock is a little more sturdy though so if your child is going to want to play with their spider that’s what I’d recommend as you don’t want any of their little legs tearing.

If you’re just going to glue it onto it’s web to display though then using paper should be fine.

Start by coloring in your spider. You can use black for this or go for colors like grey, blue or purple as I have.

Fancy going something super spooky for Halloween? How about using green or grabbing some glow in the dark paint to decorate with!

Once you’ve done your coloring it’s time to cut out the different parts of your spider.

If you are making this craft with younger kids such as toddlers or preschoolers they may require some help with this, especially with the legs which are a bit smaller.

With my own kids I normally try to share the cutting duties a bit so I would do any tricky bits and they could do something easier like the head or main body so that we’ve both helped to create it.

Once the parts of your spider are all cut out you can build it. Glue the eight legs onto the back of the spider’s body and glue the head and eye’s onto the front.

You can either cut out the paper spider web and glue your spider craft onto there or use some tape to attach some string or twine onto the back of your spider so that you can hang it up.

This easy pumpkin suncatcher is one that I made with my kids when they were toddlers.

It’s a great way to learn about color mixing, is good for fine motor skills and as it stayed up in their window for months I can confirm that it was super popular with them too.

This paper bag witch is so much fun – not only can you use your imagination to create a cute or scary witch but it’s perfect for using as a puppet to play with afterwards.
