Free Earth Day Scavenger Hunt
This fun scavenger hunt is the perfect excuse to get out and about this Earth Day, going for a walk around your neighborhood or around your school while you look for the items on our list.
Both you and the kids get a bit of exercise and they get to learn a bit more about caring for our planet!
Earth Day and environmental issues are something that lots of kids are naturally interested in so why not encourage that?
This printable activity is also a great way to open up conversations with your kids for example why might a canvas bag be better for the planet than a plastic bag or about using reusable bottles.
This is a great activity for kids of different ages because younger children will be able to recognise items such as bees, bikes and trees from the images that they can color while older children can read the words. This therefore also makes it a good activity if you have kids of different ages as (hopefully!) they can work together.
You can print our Earth Day printables out as many times as you like so as well being a great option for at home they’re also ideal for use in classrooms or with youth groups like scouts and guides.

Earth Day is an annual event that’s held to help celebrate and protect the planet.
National Geographic Kids has a really good kid friendly article about the history of Earth Day and how kids can be a planet hero if you’d like to read more about it.
When Is Earth Day?
Earth Day takes place each year on April 22nd.
What Do You Need For A Scavenger Hunt?
To do this scavenger hunt the most important thing is of course a copy of the printable itself!
You can print this onto normal white printer paper or onto cardstock if you need something a little sturdier.
Going outside? You might want to grab a clipboard to clip your printout onto, especially if it’s wet outdoors.
Because this scavenger hunt is one that you color you’ll also need something to color in with so make sure you grab some crayons, colored markers or coloring pencils.
If you’d like to give any prizes to people for completing the scavenger hunt or as a reward for finding the most items then how about choosing something like seeds that kids can plant at home?
Do I Need To Find Everything On The List?
As the printable has a few items on it that I know I wouldn’t find near my own home (I’m not sure if I’d see a solar panel locally) then I would personally use this sheet more as a challenge to see how many you can find and to maybe open discussions on what else might be good to have in future.
For example if you don’t have rechargeable batteries they’re a really simple change that people can make, you might like to encourage your kids to get out on bikes more often or it could be a reminder to take a reusable drink bottle out with you rather than buying bottles of water.
