I have to admit that I’ve become a bit obsessed with camping crafts recently and this campfire craft is the result of that! I think it’s mainly down to the fact that it’s actually stopped raining for once (pretty much a miracle here in Cornwall) and the kids are all excited about getting the tent out so camping crafts are the natural progression for me.
We’re thinking about tents and campfires and toasting marshmallows and while we wait for that doing a few easy camping crafts is a great way to keep that excitement going! This foil painted campfire craft is super simple so that even young kids can join in on the fun and excitement.

Campfire Craft
Painting with foil is great for even young kids as you can make it into the right size for them to hold and of course they can squeeze it to make it a bit easier!
This campfire craft is one of our favourites but if you’d like some more inspiration for fun camping crafts and activities then make sure you check out the links at the end of this post for more inspiration.

Campfire Painting
This activity is so simple that it would make a great camping craft for preschool or for toddlers but older children will enjoy it too. My youngest is at school and still loves simple craft ideas like this where I know that she’ll be able to make something that looks like the finished image above, some crafts can be so tricky for younger kids despite their enthusiasm!
To make this painted campfire you’ll need some white paper or cardstock – I prefer the card as it seems to cope better with the large amount of paint – not getting flimsy like paper can but obviously go with whatever you can find.
Pop some yellow and red paint onto a plate, I have a couple of reusable plates that I use for painting activities like this as it makes it so easy for the kids to be able to dip their painting materials into them.
You can use orange as well but I quite like to use this as an excuse to talk about colour mixing (plus I’m trying to cut down on the crazy amount of craft supplies we had!)
Cut out two rectangles out of brown card or paper to act as the wood and stick these down on to your card.
Brown packaging paper or the inside of a cereal box would work well for this if you don’t have any brown card at home. You could also draw some wood markings onto your pieces of wood with a pen if you like.
Finally crunch up your foil into a ball and then dip it into your red and yellow paints and onto your picture to paint your campfire flames. As with a real fire you don’t know exactly where the flames will go so wherever you paint these on will be perfect.
