This CD chick craft is super easy and quick to make and is a great way to use up any old CDs or DVDs that you’ve got lying around at home – I know we have a huge stash of ones that have become scratched over the years or that we don’t use any more. They’re a really different material to use and make a nice change to the normal paper plate crafts!

To make this craft you will need some old CD’s or DVD’s, yellow paint, a paintbrush, yellow paper, orange paper, scissors, glue and either some googly eyes or white scrap paper and a black pen.
Start by painting your CD, while you are doing this you could discuss how it’s different to painting on normal paper, can you see your face in the CD? Does the brush move more quickly or slowly on the CD?
Next cut out your wings from yellow paper and your beak from orange paper, older kids should be able to do this themselves while you can help younger ones by holding the paper and letting them snip into it to cut out a triangle to make the beak.
Glue them onto your chicks and add some eyes too, I’ve used ones cut from scrap paper but you could use googly eyes if you prefer.
